blockIn addition to today being the first day of school for many families, today is also National Read A Book Day...I know...there's a day for everything! But in honor of the day, I'm sharing some of my fav books that are currently on my nightstand.
Lately, my son Gabe and I have been reading the classic, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, it's one of the most beloved children’s books of and a book that I grew up on.
Another one of my favs is new author, Tieko Nejon's My Way Will Do Just Fine, which is part of her Muse of June series. The main character, June, is "a wife, mom, daughter, friend, who like many of us is simply looking to live her life on her terms but struggles with committing to her own identity for fear of what others will say." This is the ideal read for any woman, not just book lovers.
Lastly, I highly recommend the upcoming release and first book from Black Lives Matter Co-founder, Patrisse Khan-Cullors, When They Call You A Terrorist. Co-authored by Asha Bandele, Patrisse's memoir is a story of survival where she "generously shares the intimacies of her life and loves, and her unyielding devotion to the cause of freedom", says Angela Davis. Readers will not forget this book. It will stay with you long after the last page has been turned. This is a story our nation desperately needs to hear, read and devour, especially right now. Slated for January 2018 release, you can pre-order your copy of When They Call You A Terrorist, here.
